[ Vaguely, JJ's aware that Cam's just trying to make light of the situation. He should know, because it's something that he does himself quite often, but he's so keyed up from nerves that he can't be anything but honest in his reply. ]
[JJ you do care. It doesn't take long for Cam to arrive, and when he does, his lighthearted texts from earlier stand in stark contrast to Cam's current continence. He's alright, but despite the fact he just woke up from an extended nap at Sandra's place, he still looks beaten down. Physically, he has a number of minor wounds that he hasn't bothered to heal yet (used up all of his magic helping the people that really needed it), and mentally, even though he moves with his normal relaxed posture, there's a weariness there. Dark circles under his eyes, and a distant look to his gaze.
[ Realistically, JJ knows that there's no way that Cam made it out of there unscathed, not with everything that's been going on in the city. During the riots even regular citizens had been prepared to take the lives of one another, so he can't imagine what the radicals have in mind for their captives.
But Cam is... impressive? He'd only ever seen Cam's combat ability in VR, and sure it hadn't been glamorous, but he still had plenty of cool magical powers, so it's possible that he made it out just fine. ]
Cam?
[ Only the light in JJ's bedroom was on (save energy, go green) so it's dark when he steps out to meet Cam by the door, squinting in the darkness. ]
You're... [ But he doesn't need to see to hear the fatigue in his voice. ] What happened? What did they do? Did you find Clair?
The Sanctuary?! [ Whoa, maybe turn down the volume a little JJ. ] Are you serious? How's that even possible?
[ But they'd broken into Simwe's palace during the riots, and it's obvious that the radicals have a political agenda, so it makes sense that they would have members that could influence political change in Olympia. It's just hard to hear that they'd infiltrated an institution so vital to the population.
JJ was going to ask if he'd seen medical help at the Sanctuary, but now he's pretty sure it would be pointless. ]
Beats me. [Cam shrugs, dropping his hands to his lap, inspecting the bandanna with the careful focus of someone trying to be distracted. The whole fiasco left a bad taste in his mouth, from the wild goose chase to the Temples, to the hostages turning on their rescuers, and then the very troubling gaps left in Cam's memory.
Suddenly, he makes a face, Ugh, not again. Blood stains are the worst to get out.
[ That's enlightening. But JJ doesn't press the issue. He doesn't really know what Cam encountered when they finally found the hostages and their captors, and if Cam doesn't want to talk about it after everything he's already had to struggle through in the past day, then JJ can leave it alone.
Even if he really wants to know. ]
You look like you could benefit from a shower. [ Which JJ is not going to help with.
But what he can do is get up and head to the kitchen. After Misa had gotten stabbed, he'd invested in getting a first aid kit, as handy as Cam's powers are, and he grabs it now along with a bowl of grapes. A little bit of medicine for his physical wounds and his emotional wounds. ]
[Sorry JJ, he’s not being cagey on purpose. It’s just been a long day, and besides the significant gaps in his memory, Cam isn’t the most pleased with his own performance in rescuing the hostages, thus his talkative self is missing in action at the moment.
But some things don’t change. Cam’s eyes widen at the sight of the grapes and he immediately reaches for them. JJ, you truly know how to help a friend out.
Settling the bowl in his lap, he proceeds to shove five of them in his mouth, he looks at the bandages,] I don’t need bandages. I just thought I looked more rugged like this, you know? [But… he’ll take them anyway. It stinks running out of healing magic.]
[ Not that JJ had been waiting, but he does feel an immediate relief when Cam reaches for the grapes with his customary enthusiasm. He's glad that if nothing else, this is at least the same. ]
You didn't think you looked rugged enough with the bandana and the goatee? [ He points out, amused as he sits down next to Cam.
Without really thinking about it, he reaches out to settle a hand on Cam's shoulder. It's not so much a gesture of comfort for Cam as it is for JJ—they're not particularly the most open and vulnerable pair of friends, and they hadn't known each other for very long but. It had been a long few hours alone in the house, without a clue regarding what was going on with the rescue mission.

Clair's fine. Wasn't in the group I found, but she's alright. So's most everyone else.
[Most is an unfortunate key word. Between everyone living with Sandra, five hours was enough time to pick up on the non-specifics.]
Pricks were keeping a bunch of them brainwashed and locked up in the Sanctuary.

Can you patch yourself up if I give you bandages?
